The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Ben Lobb, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Hedy Fry, Matthew Kellway, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, James Lunney, Cathy McLeod, Christine Moore, Murray Rankin, David Wilks and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Guy Caron for Murray Rankin and Costas Menegakis for David Wilks.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Chief.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Association of Midwives: Emmanuelle Hébert, President. Cline Medical Centre: John C. Cline, Medical Director. InspireHealth: Janice Wright, Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Services. Pure North S'Energy Foundation: Allan Markin, Founder; Mark Atkinson, Director, Quality Assurance; Samantha Kimball, Research Director. Canadian Federation of Medical Students: Bryce Durafourt, President. HealthCareCAN: William Tholl, President and Chief Executive Officer; Raj Bhatla, Member, Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. UBC Centre for Health Services and Policy Research: Sabrina Wong, Interim Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the best practices and federal barriers: practice and training of healthcare professionals.
 

John C. Cline, by videoconference from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Janice Wright, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, Allan Markin, by videoconference from Calgary, Alberta, and Emmanuelle Hébert made statements and, with Samantha Kimball and Mark Atkinson, answered questions.

 

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Sabrina Wong, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, Bryce Durafourt, William Tholl and Raj Bhatla made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
