The Standing Committee on Health met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room C-120, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Ben Lobb, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Hedy Fry, Claude Gravelle, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, James Lunney, David Wilks and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Niki Ashton for Libby Davies, Ted Opitz for Eve Adams and Rathika Sitsabaiesan for Dany Morin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Health: Hilary Geller, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Environments and Consumer Safety Branch; Hanan Abramovici, Senior Scientific Information Officer, Office of research and surveillance; Robert Ianiro, Director General, Controlled Substances and Tobacco Directorate, Healthy Environments and Consumer Safety Branch; Cindy Moriarty, Executive Director, Health Programs and Strategic Initiatives / Strategic Policy Branch. As individuals: Meldon Kahan, Medical Director, Women's College Hospital; Harold Kalant, University of Toronto.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, the Committee commenced its study of Marijuana: Health Risks and Harms.
 

Hilary Geller made a statement and, with Hanan Abramovici, Robert Ianiro and Cindy Moriarty, answered questions.

 

At 9:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Meldon Kahan and Harold Kalant made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
