The Standing Committee on Finance met in camera at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Mike Allen, Hon. Scott Brison, Guy Caron, Gerald Keddy, James Rajotte, Murray Rankin, Andrew Saxton and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Matthew Dubé for Nathan Cullen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst; Michaël Lambert-Racine, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of Youth Employment in Canada.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

At 4:09 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

With regard to the 2014 pre-budget consultations,

  • that the public consultations be held from June 6 to August 6, 2014 with written submissions limited to 2000 words, pursuant to the motion adopted by the Committee on April 29, 2014;
  • that the Committee hold six, three-hour hearings in the fall in Ottawa.

That the topics of the public consultations and the hearings be as follows:

  • Balancing the federal budget to ensure fiscal sustainability and economic growth
  • Supporting families and helping vulnerable Canadians by focusing on health, education and training
  • Increasing the competitiveness of Canadian businesses through research, development, innovation and commercialization
  • Ensuring prosperous and secure communities including through support for infrastructure
  • Improving Canada's taxation and regulatory regimes
  • Maximizing the number and types of jobs for Canadians.

That the Chair be authorized to publish a news release to inform Canadians about the 2014 pre-budget consultations.

 

At 4:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
