The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 228, The Valour Building, the Chair, Hélène LeBlanc, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: John Barlow, Joyce Bateman, Joan Crockatt, Mylène Freeman, Hélène LeBlanc, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Pat Perkins and Susan Truppe.

 

Acting Members present: Sean Casey for Kirsty Duncan and Laurin Liu for Djaouida Sellah.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Employment and Social Development: Jonathan Will, Director General, Economic Policy Directorate; Catherine Scott, Director General, Labour Market Integration, Skills and Employment Branch. Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Maia Welbourne, Director General, Strategic Policy and Planning; Matthew Graham, Acting Director, Immigration Branch; Louis Dumas, Director, Case Processing Centre - Ottawa. Status of Women Canada: Linda Savoie, Senior Director General, Women's Program and Regional Operations Directorate. Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada: Janet Walden, Chief Operating Officer; Serge Villemure, Director, Scholarships and Fellowships Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 26, 2015, the Committee commenced its study of women in skilled trades and science, technology, engineering and mathematics occupations.
 

Jonathan Will, Catherine Scott, Matthew Graham, Linda Savoie and Janet Walden made statements and, with Maia Welbourne, Serge Villemure and Louis Dumas, answered questions.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
