The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 228, The Valour Building, the Chair, Hélène LeBlanc, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: John Barlow, Joyce Bateman, Joan Crockatt, Kirsty Duncan, Mylène Freeman, Hélène LeBlanc, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Pat Perkins, Djaouida Sellah and Susan Truppe.

 

Acting Members present: Chris Charlton for Djaouida Sellah and Hon. Hedy Fry for Kirsty Duncan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst. House of Commons: Julie Geoffrion, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Carrefour pour Elle: Marie-Christine Plante, Executive Assistant. KW Counselling Services: Leslie Josling, Executive Director, Co-Chair VAW Forum. St. John's Status of Women's Council Women's Centre: Jenny Wright, Executive Director; Sheila Ryan, Program Coordinator. Regroupement québécois des Centres d'aide et de lutte contre les agressions à caractère sexuel: Nathalie Duhamel, Coordinator.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 1, 2014 and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 30, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of promising practices to prevent violence against women.
 

Nathalie Duhamel, by videoconference from Montréal, Québec, Marie-Christine Plante, Leslie Josling and Jenny Wright made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:41 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:46 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to standing order 108(2), the Committee invite the following witnesses to testify on the current harassment allegations at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) for an initial meeting of two hours: Hubert T. Lacroix, CEO at CBC; Monique Marcotte, Executive Director of Human Resources at CBC.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
