The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 228, The Valour Building, the Chair, Hélène LeBlanc, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, John Barlow, Joan Crockatt, Kirsty Duncan, Hélène LeBlanc, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Djaouida Sellah, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Peggy Nash for Niki Ashton.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Susan MacPhee, Acting Director General, Immigration Branch; Justine Akman, Director, Immigration Branch. Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development: Marla Israel, Director General, Social Policy and Programs Branch, Education and Social Development Programs and Partnerships Sector; Andrew Beynon, Director General, Community Opportunities Branch, Lands and Economic Development. Public Safety Canada: Angela Connidis, Director General, Crime Prevention, Corrections and Criminal Justice Directorate; Kimberly Lavoie, Director, Crime Prevention, Corrections and Criminal Justice Directorate. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Supt Tyler Bates, Director, National Aboriginal Policing and Crime Prevention Services.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 1, 2014 and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 30, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of promising practices to prevent violence against women.
 

Susan MacPhee, Marla Israel, Angela Connidis and Supt Tyler Bates made statements and, with Justine Akman and Andrew Beynon, answered questions.

 

At 10:22 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
