Mr. Sorenson (Crowfoot), from the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security, presented the Sixth Report of the Committee, "A Study of Electronic Monitoring in the Correctional and Immigration Settings". — Sessional Paper No. 8510-411-129.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee requested that the government table a comprehensive response.

First Reading of Senate Public Bills

Business of Supply

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mr. Rae (Toronto Centre), seconded by Mr. Cuzner (Cape Breton—Canso), moved, — That the House call on the government to take several simple and immediate actions to reduce the growing income inequality in Canada including: (a) a roll back of its recent Employment Insurance Premium hikes which inflict a higher relative burden on low to modest income workers; (b) ending the punitive new claw back of Employment Insurance benefits that are discouraging many Canadians from working while on claim; (c) making tax credits, such as the Family Caregiver Tax Credit, refundable so that low income Canadians are not excluded; (d) making the Registered Disability Savings Plan available to sufferers of chronic diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis; and (e)removing interest charges from the federal component of student loans.

Debate arose thereon.

By unanimous consent, it was ordered, — That, notwithstanding any Standing Order or usual practice of the House, on Thursday, November 8, 2012, the House shall meet at 10:00 a.m. and proceed to Government Orders; Members may make statements pursuant to Standing Order 31 at 11:00 a.m.; oral questions shall be taken up not later than 11:15 a.m.; the House shall proceed to the ordinary daily routine of business at 12 noon, followed by Government Orders; Private Members' Business shall be taken up at 1:30 p.m.; and the House shall, at 2:30 p.m., stand adjourned until Monday, November 19, 2012, provided that, for the purposes of Standing Order 28, it shall be deemed to have sat on Friday, November 9, 2012.
