The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jay Aspin, Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Randall Garrison, Candice Hoeppner, Ryan Leef, Rick Norlock, John Rafferty, Brent Rathgeber, Jean Rousseau, Francis Scarpaleggia, Kevin Sorenson and Wai Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst; Christine Morris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: 3M Company: Steve Chapin, Vice-President, Track and Trace Solutions. 3M Company Canada: Elise Maheu, Director, Government Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of electronic monitoring.
 

Steve Chapin made a statement and, with Elise Maheu, answered questions.

 

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Candice Hoeppner moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Jay Aspin, Candice Hoeppner, Ryan Leef, Rick Norlock, Brent Rathgeber, Wai Young — 6; NAYS: Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Randall Garrison, John Rafferty, Jean Rousseau — 4.

 

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security invite Ian McPhail, Vice-Chair and Interim Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, to appear before the Committee on May 17, for a full two hours, to discuss the Commission’s report on the conduct of front-line RCMP officers during the G8 and G20 summits in Ontario in 2010.

 

At 5:16 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
