The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 1:17 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.


Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Nina Grewal, Ève Péclet, Scott Reid and David Sweet.


Acting Members present: Rathika Sitsabaiesan for Wayne Marston and Kevin Sorenson for Russ Hiebert.


In attendance: Library of Parliament: Melissa Radford, Analyst; Erin Shaw, Analyst.


Witnesses: Congo Yetu Initiative: Desire Kilolwa, President and Founder, Human Rights Division; Nicole Mwaka, Member; Charmian Devi, Member, Public Relations.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Thursday, October 20, 2011, the Subcommittee resumed its study on the sexual violence against women used systematically as a weapon of war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Desire Kilolwa, Nicole Mwaka and Charmian Devi made statements and answered questions.

The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.

It was agreed, — That witnesses be invited to appear in relation to the study on Sri Lanka on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 and that if witnesses are not available on that day, that witnesses be invited in relation to the study on sexual violence against women used systematically as a weapon of war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.


At 2:09 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
