The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Chris Alexander, James Bezan, Tarik Brahmi, Corneliu Chisu, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Matthew Kellway, Hon. John McKay, Christine Moore, Rick Norlock, Ted Opitz and Mark Strahl.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study and report to the House of Commons on each of the following subjects:

- maintaining the readiness of the Canadian Forces;

- defence of North America;

- NATO's strategic concept and Canada's role in international defence cooperation;

- care of ill and injured Canadian Forces members;

- role of reservists and their connection to communities across Canada;

- That the Committee undertake to remain seized of the current military missions in Libya and Afghanistan, and;

- That the Committee examine National Defence department estimates at the appropriate time.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee call Lieutenant-General (Ret'd) Andrew Leslie to appear as a witness at the earliest opportunity.

 

At 10:20 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
