The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D. Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joyce Bateman, Tyrone Benskin, Corneliu Chisu, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Pierre Dionne Labelle, Yvon Godin, Jacques Gourde, Guy Lauzon, Élaine Michaud, Bernard Trottier and David Wilks.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne du Canada: Marie-France Kenny, President; Diane Côté, Director, Community and Government Liaison. Fédération de la jeunesse canadienne-française: Alexis Couture, President; Sylvain Groulx, Director General. Quebec Community Groups Network: Stephen D. Thompson, Director, Policy, Research and Public Affairs; Lorraine O'Donnell, Coordinator, Quebec English-Speaking Communities Research Network (QUESCREN).

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee commenced consideration of the study of Linguistic duality during the 150th anniversary celebrations of Canadian Confederation in 2017.
 

Marie-France Kenny, Stephen D. Thompson and Alexis Couture made statements and, with Lorraine O'Donnell, answered questions.

 

At 12:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:19 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, on motion of Jacques Gourde, it was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Linguistic duality during the 150th anniversary celebrations of Canadian Confederation in 2017, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 23, 200 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
