The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(2).

 

Members of the Committee present: Dan Albas, Scott Armstrong, Françoise Boivin, Hon. Irwin Cotler, Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Pierre Jacob, Hoang Mai, Wayne Marston, Brent Rathgeber and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Randy Hoback for Kyle Seeback and Tilly O'Neill Gordon for Robert Goguen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Cynthia Kirkby, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Françoise Boivin, it was agreed, — That Mike Wallace be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

Mike Wallace took the Chair.

 
By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, it was agreed, — That the Committee study Bill S-9, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, by inviting the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Rob Nicholson and Senior Officials on Wednesday, February 6, 2013;

That the Committee hear witnesses on Bill S-9, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, on Monday, February 11 and Wednesday, February 13, 2013; and

That the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-9, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, commence on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 4:30 p.m.

 

At 3:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
