The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dave MacKenzie, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Hon. Irwin Cotler, Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Robert Goguen, Jack Harris, Pierre Jacob, Brian Jean, Dave MacKenzie, Brent Rathgeber, Kyle Seeback and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Jasbir Sandhu for Charmaine Borg.

 

Associate Members present: David Wilks.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Robin MacKay, Analyst; Julia Nicol, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the request by four (4) members of the Committee to undertake a study of Bill C-290, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sports betting).
 

Robert Goguen moved, — That the Committee complete first its study on Organized Crime; and then commence its study on Bill C-290, An Act o amend the Criminal Code (sports betting) .

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 4.

 

At 8:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:05 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, the Committee resumed its study on the state of organized crime.
 

At 9:28 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
