The Standing Committee on Health met in camera at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Libby Davies, Hon. Hedy Fry, Parm Gill, Dany Morin, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Djaouida Sellah, Joy Smith, Mark Strahl and John Williamson.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: David-Andrés Novoa, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Public Health Agency of Canada: David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer; Judith Bossé, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention Branch. Canadian Institutes of Health Research: Alain Beaudet, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
 

David Butler-Jones made a statement and, with Judith Bossé, answered questions.

 

At 4:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:17 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Alain Beaudet made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee commence a study of chronic diseases related to aging on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, and that the Chair report the Committee’s findings to the House of Commons.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold eight (8) meetings for its study of chronic diseases related to aging.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study of health promotion and disease prevention and that it hold four (4) meetings on this study, starting on Wednesday, November 16, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study of neurological diseases and that it hold at least two (2) meetings on this study, starting on Wednesday, December 7, 2011.

 

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
