The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Libby Davies, Hon. Hedy Fry, Parm Gill, Dany Morin, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Djaouida Sellah, Joy Smith and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: Rod Bruinooge for Mark Strahl.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Pharmacists Association: Jeff Poston, Executive Director; Phil Emberley, Director, Pharmacy Innovation. National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly: Sandra Hirst, Executive Board Member. As individuals: Carole Estabrooks, Professor, Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta; Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Translation; Dorothy Pringle, Professor Emeritus, Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto; Suzanne Garon, Principal Investigator, Research Centre on Aging, University of Sherbrooke.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, October 3, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of chronic diseases related to aging.
 

Suzanne Garon, by videoconference from Sherbrooke, Québec, Jeff Poston, Sandra Hirst, Carole Estabrooks and Dorothy Pringle made statements and, with Phil Emberley, answered questions.

 

Libby Davies moved, — That the Committee continue to sit in public for its consideration of Committee business.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division: YEAS: Libby Davies, Hedy Fry, Dany Morin, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Djaouida Sellah — 5; NAYS: Kelly Block, Patrick Brown, Rod Bruinooge, Colin Carrie, Parm Gill, John Williamson — 6.

 

At 5:21 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:23 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
