The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Rodney Weston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Robert Chisholm, Patricia Davidson, Fin Donnelly, Bryan Hayes, Randy Kamp, Ryan Leef, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Robert Sopuck, Philip Toone, Jonathan Tremblay and Rodney Weston.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kristen E. Courtney, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Great Lakes Fishery Commission: Marc Gaden, Communications Director and Legislative Liaison; Chris Goddard, Executive Secretary; Robert Lambe, Commissioner.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, the Committee resumed its study on invasive species that pose a threat to the Great Lakes system.
 

Robert Lambe made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:13 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:15 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Mike Allen, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera .

 

At 5:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:17 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That, because of the numerous economic, cultural, and traditional contributions of northern and arctic fisheries, the Committee undertake a study on these fisheries to determine their strengths and the unique challenges they face in order to examine potential solutions for overcoming these challenges.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
