The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Irene Mathyssen, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Joyce Bateman, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Mylène Freeman, Roxanne James, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Judy Sgro, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

Acting Members present: Françoise Boivin for Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet and Bev Shipley for Dan Albas.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst ; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst . House of Commons: Marie-France Renaud, Procedural Clerk.

Appearing: Hon. Rona Ambrose, P.C., M.P., Minister for Status of Women.

Witnesses: Status of Women Canada: Suzanne Clément, Coordinator and Head of Agency, Office of the Coordinator; Johanne Tremblay, Director, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer; Linda Savoie, Director General, Women's Program and Regional Operations Directorate; Sébastien Goupil, Director General, Policy and External Relations; Nanci-Jean Waugh, Director General, Communications and Public Affairs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2012-2013: Votes 30 and 35 under HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

The Chair called Vote 30 under HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT.

The Minister made a statement and, with Suzanne Clément, answered questions.

Vote 30 under HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT carried.

The Chair called Vote 35 under HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT.

Vote 35 under HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT carried.

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes 30 and 35 under HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT in the Main Estimates 2012-2013, to the House.

At 4:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:19 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of improving economic prospects for Canadian girls.

Suzanne Clément, Sébastien Goupil and Nanci-Jean Waugh made statements and, with Linda Savoie, answered questions.

At 4:57 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:02 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of abuse of older women.

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

It was agreed, — That the Committee continue consideration of the draft report during the second hour of the meeting scheduled for Monday, March 26, 2012.

At 5:17 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
