The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 10:59 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Annick Papillon, Jasbir Sandhu, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Chief, Macroeconomics and Trade; Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Malting Industry Association of Canada: Phil De Kemp, President. Canada Wood Group: Paul Newman, Executive Director, Market Access and Trade, Council of Forest Industries (COFI). Canadian Honey Council: Lee Townsend, Vice-Chair. As an individual: Raymond Loo. Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association: Mark A. Nantais, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of a comprehensive and high-level economic partnership agreement (EPA) with Japan.
 

Phil De Kemp, Paul Newman, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, and Lee Townsend, by videoconference from Edmonton, Alberta, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Raymond Loo and Mark A. Nantais made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:52 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 32(5), the Committee undertake a study of the report on the operation of the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act referred to it by the House of Commons on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, and that the meetings take place on Thursday, June 7, 2012 and Tuesday, June 12, 2012.

 

At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
