The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Moore, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ray Boughen, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Gordon Brown, Paul Calandra, Andrew Cash, Matthew Dubé, Hon. Rob Moore, Pierre Nantel, Blake Richards, Scott Simms and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Jeff Watson for Jim Hillyer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Michael Dewing, Analyst. House of Commons: Philippe Méla, Legislative Clerk; David-Andrés Novoa, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: Wladyslaw Lizon, Mississauga East—Cooksville.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, April 18, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-266, An Act to establish Pope John Paul II Day.
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

Wladyslaw Lizon made a statement and answered questions.

 

Andrew Cash moved, — That the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage undertake a comprehensive study of the recent changes at Library and Archives Canada including the introduction of a code of conduct and invite relevant witnesses including Daniel Caron as well as representatives from library, archivist and archaeological associations.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Paul Calandra moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 5.

 

At 4:22 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:24 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 4:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:27 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

Questioning of the witness resumed.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of the Preamble and Clause 1, Short Title, were postponed.
