The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, Pierre Lemieux, Ben Lobb, Larry Miller, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Jean Rousseau, Frank Valeriote and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Brian Masse for Malcolm Allen.

 

Associate Members present: Hon. Wayne Easter.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Food and Consumer Products of Canada: Derek Nighbor, Senior Vice-President, Public and Regulatory Affairs. Food Processors of Canada: Christopher Kyte, President. GS1 Canada : Forrest Parlee, Director, Public Affairs; Mike Sadwinyk, Senior Vice-President. As an individual: David Sparling, Professor, Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motions adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 13, 2012, the Committee commenced its study of the food supply chain (overview of the subject).
 

David Sparling, by videoconference from London, Ontario, and Derek Nighbor made statements.

 

At 3:42 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

At 3:53 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
