The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Greg Kerr, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Sean Casey, Sylvain Chicoine, Richard M. Harris, Bryan Hayes, Greg Kerr, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Peter Stoffer and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Isabelle Morin for Irene Mathyssen and Nycole Turmel for Manon Perreault.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: David M. Robinson, Director General of Transformation; Maureen Sinnott, Director, Strategic and Enabling Initiatives. Royal Canadian Legion: Gordon Moore, Dominion President; Brad White, Dominion Secretary, Dominion Command; Andrea Siew, Director, Service Bureau.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 24, 2012, the Committee commenced its study of the Red Tape Initiative at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
 

David M. Robinson, Maureen Sinnott and Gordon Moore, made statements and, with Brad White and Andrea Siew, answered questions.

 

At 5:11 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:16 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the committee invite the Council of Canadian Administrative Tribunals and the Bureau of Pension Advocates to appear in relation to its study on the Review of Veterans Review and Appeal Board (VRAB) activities in the first hour of the committee meeting on October 22, 2012, and Mr. Harold Leduc and representatives from the RCMP for the second hour of the meeting.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Veterans Review and Appeal Board to appear in relation to its study on the Review of Veterans Review and Appeal Board (VRAB) activities on October 29, 2012.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
