The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Chris Warkentin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Dennis Bevington, Ray Boughen, Rob Clarke, Jonathan Genest-Jourdain, Carol Hughes, LaVar Payne, Greg Rickford, Kyle Seeback, Chris Warkentin and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Chisholm for Linda Duncan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami: Udloriak Hanson, Special Advisor to the President; Jim Moore, Executive Director; Elizabeth Ford, Director, Department of Health and Environment. Congress of Aboriginal Peoples: Dwight A. Dorey, National Chief; Betty Ann Lavallée, National Chief.

 
Pursuant to the motion adopted on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, the Committee proceeded to a briefing with Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami.
 

Udloriak Hanson made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:06 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the motion adopted on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, the Committee proceeded to a briefing with the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples.
 

Betty Ann Lavallée and Dwight A. Dorey made statements and answered questions.

 

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of Committee Business.

 

It was agreed, — That as part of the Committee’s study on Land-Use and sustainable economic development the Committee receive a briefing from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development on land tenure and land registry on Thursday, November 17, 2011, from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m.

 

It was agreed, — That as part of the Committee’s study on Land-Use and sustainable economic development the Committee receive a briefing from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development on Additions to Reserves policy on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m; and that the briefing be followed by an hour of Committee Business.

 

It was agreed, — That as part of the Committee’s study on Land-Use and sustainable economic development the Committee receive briefings on Thursday, November 24, 2011, on the topic of Land Management Boards and Land-Use planning (modern treaties) from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m and on the topic of Land Management Programs on Reserves from 12:00 p.m to 1:00 p.m.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
