The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dennis Bevington, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Sukh Dhaliwal, Cheryl Gallant, Roger Gaudet, Michel Guimond, Brian Jean, Colin Mayes, Hon. John McCallum, Brad Trost, Merv Tweed and Jeff Watson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Ardiana Hallaci, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Railway Association of Canada: Cliff Mackay, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian National Railway Company: Paul Miller, Chief Safety and Sustainability Officer. Canadian Pacific Railway: Glen Wilson, Vice-President, Safety, Environment and Regulatory Affairs. VIA Rail Canada Inc.: John Marginson, Chief Operating Officer.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, December 8, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-33, An Act to amend the Railway Safety Act and to make consequential amendments to the Canada Transportation Act.
 

Cliff Mackay made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:02 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Dennis Bevington moved, — That the Government provide the Committee with copies in both official languages of Canada Post’s Strategic Review document “Universal Service Obligation and Other Public Policy Analysis: Study 1”.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 5:16 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
