The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Hon. Scott Brison, Robert Carrier, Bernard Généreux, Russ Hiebert, Ted Menzies, Thomas J. Mulcair, Massimo Pacetti, Daniel Paillé, James Rajotte, Paul Szabo and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Thomas J. Mulcair.

 

Associate Members present: Brent Rathgeber.

 

Other Members present: Hon. Wayne Easter.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its pre-budget consultations 2010.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Mark McQueen, John Gamble, Susie Grynol, Claude Lajeunesse, Robert Simonds and Geoff Smith, made statements and, with Richard Rémillard, answered questions.

 

Scott Brison moved, — That the Committee requests that the Department of Finance Canada provide it with the estimated cost of the F-35 aircraft per airplane, how this fits into the fiscal framework, and that this material be submitted to the Committee within 10 days.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 0.

 

On motion of Scott Brison, it was agreed, — That the Committee requests that the Department of Finance Canada provide that Committee with its adjustments to the fiscal framework to incorporate the costs of the Government of Canada`s justice legislation, specifically,

• C-4, An Act to amend the Youth Criminal Justice Act and to make consequential and related amendments to other Acts
• C-5, An Act to amend the International Transfer of Offenders Act
• C-16, An Act to amend the Criminal Code
• C-17, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (investigative hearing and recognizance with conditions)
• C-21, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sentencing for fraud)
• C-22, An Act respecting the mandatory reporting of Internet child pornography by persons who provide an Internet service
• C-23(A), An Act to amend the Criminal Records Act
• C-23(B), An Act to amend the Criminal Records Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts
• C-39, An Act to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts

The Committee requests that this information be submitted to it within 10 days.

 

On motion of Scott Brison, it was agreed, — That the Committee requests that the Department of Finance Canada provide it with the original estimate of the cost of hosting the G-8 and G-20 summits, and the final costs that have been booked by the Department of Finance Canada and that this material be submitted to the Committee within 10 days.

 

On motion of Scott Brison, it was agreed, — That the Committee requests that the Department of Finance Canada) provide it with the estimated cost to the federal treasury of the Government of Canada`s planned reduction of corporate tax rates from January 1, 2011 onwards, and that this material be submitted to the Committee within 10 days.

 

Mike Wallace moved, — That the Committee requests that the Department of Finance Canada provide that Committee with its adjustments to the fiscal framework to incorporate the costs of the following legislation currently before Parliament specifically:

• C-395
• C-309
• C-300
• C-343
• C-471

The Committee requests that this information be submitted to it within 10 days.
