The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen St., the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Josée Beaudin, Olivia Chow, Rick Dykstra, Nina Grewal, Robert Oliphant, Thierry St-Cyr, David Tilson, Justin Trudeau, Tim Uppal, Alice Wong, Borys Wrzesnewskyj and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Alan Tonks for Justin Trudeau.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Daphne Keevil Harrold, Analyst; Anna Gay, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants: Nigel Thomson, Chair, Board of Directors; Patrice Brunet, Member, Board of Directors. Canadian Migration Institute: Imran Qayyum, Chair. Canadian Association of Professional Immigration Consultants: Philip Mooney, Past President; Timothy Morson, Policy Director; Tarek Allam, Chapter President, Quebec. As an individual: Warren Creates, Immigration Lawyer.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Justin Trudeau - That the Committee requests that the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration provide it with copies of all correspondence, both written and electronic, within his department on the issue of including same sex marriage protection and same sex marriage rights in the most recent edition of the Citizenship Guide, and that this information be provided to the committee within 10 days.

Debate arose thereon.

 

By unanimous consent, the motion was allowed to stand.

 

At 3:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:49 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, September 23, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-35, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
 

Nigel Thomson and Imran Qayyum made statements and, with Patrice Brunet, answered questions.

 

At 4:45 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:46 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Philip Mooney and Timothy Morson made statements and, with Tarek Allam, answered questions.

 

At 5:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
