The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Martha Hall Findlay, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Jean-Yves Laforest, Lee Richardson, Mario Silva and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Peter Julian and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac for Claude Guimond.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst; Simon Lapointe, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: National Labor Committee: Charles Kernaghan, Executive Director. United Steelworkers: Tim Waters, Political Director. Forest Products Association of Canada: Andrew Casey, Vice-President, Public Affairs and International Trade.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, September 27, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-8, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
 

Charles Kernaghan, Tim Waters and Andrew Casey made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee sit on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in order to meet a delegation of parliamentarians from Pakistan.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee sit on Monday, November 1, 2010 in order to meet a delegation of parliamentarians from Macedonia.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on the following dates in order to hear witnesses in relation to its study of Bill C-8, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan: Monday, October 25, 2010 and Wednesday, October 27, 2010.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $36,100, in relation to its study of Bill C-8, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of free trade between Canada and the European Union, the proposed budget in the amount of $89,776, for the Committee’s travel to London, United Kingdom; Brussels, Belgium and Prague, Czech Republic from November 13 to 20, 2010, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of free trade between Canada and the European Union, the proposed budget in the amount of $82,805, for the Committee’s travel to London, United Kingdom; Brussels, Belgium and Rome, Italy from November 13 to 20, 2010, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Liaison Committee.

 

At 4:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
