The Standing Committee on International Trade met in camera at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Claude Guimond, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Jean-Yves Laforest, Lee Richardson, Mario Silva and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Sukh Dhaliwal for Martha Hall Findlay, Ed Fast for Ed Holder and Devinder Shory for Ed Holder.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst; Simon Lapointe, Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of free trade between Canada and the European Union.
 

Steve Verheul made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:22 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, September 27, 2010, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-8, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
 

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of Clause 1 was postponed.

The Chair called Clause 2.

 

Don Stephenson made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee, in consultation with the Chair, prepare draft budgets respecting the Committee’s proposed travel, from November 13 to 20, 2010 in relation to its study on free trade between Canada and the European Union, to London, United Kingdom; Brussels, Belgium; Rome, Italy and Prague, Czech Republic for consideration by the Committee.

 

At 5:38 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
