The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Maxime Bernier, Robert Carrier, Bob Dechert, Daryl Kramp, Jean-Yves Laforest, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, Ted Menzies, Thomas J. Mulcair, Massimo Pacetti, James Rajotte and Mike Wallace.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Bergevin, Analyst; Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 

At 9:38 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:38 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

John McCallum moved, — The Finance Committee requests that the Parliamentary Budget Officer provide the committee with its assessment of economic growth projections and federal government revenues and expenditures for the next five years. The committee requests that the report be made ready by July 06, 2009 and provided to the members of the committee through the Clerk. Finally that the report be posted publicly on the Parliamentary Budget Office web site 48 hours after committee members have received it.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Jean-Yves Laforest moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “economic growth projections” the following: “, the unemployment rate”.

 

The question was put on the amendment of Jean-Yves Laforest and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 8; NAYS: 0.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:
