The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Chair, Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Dave Van Kesteren and Alice Wong.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Albina Guarnieri for Lise Zarac.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Jean-François Nadeau, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Statistics Canada: Grant Schellenberg, Senior Analyst, Analysis Branch; Ted Wannell, Assistant Director, Labour and Household Surveys Analysis Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 1, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of women and pension security.
 

Grant Schellenberg made a statement and, with Ted Wannell, answered questions.

 

At 4:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:47 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $21,300 for the Committee's study of women and pension security be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $18,875 for the Committee's study on increasing the participation of women in non-traditional occupations be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee request that the Government respond to recommendations from the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women Report;

That, during an in camera session, the Government of Canada and the Agency of Status of Women provide the Committee with a complete update on what the government has done to prepare for its response and a draft response as planned to present to the United Nations and;

That the Government of Canada provide the Committee with an opportunity for stakeholder groups to review the Government’s progress and comment on the response after it has been tabled with the United Nations.

 

At 5:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
