The Standing Committee on International Trade met in camera at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Hon. Scott Brison, Ron Cannan, Serge Cardin, Claude Guimond, Richard M. Harris, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy and Lee Richardson.

 

Acting Members present: Bonnie Crombie for John Cannis and Joyce Murray for Mario Silva.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study of the defence of supply management by Canadian negotiators to the World Trade Organizaton (WTO) by inviting representatives of the agricultural sector, Canada’s Chief Agricultural Negotiator to the WTO and the Minister of International Trade to appear before it, and that the Committee reports its findings and recommendations to the House.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Canada-South America Trade Relations.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: “Exploring enhanced commercial relations with Brazil”.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report supplementary opinions from Parties provided that they are no more than 2 pages in length and submitted electronically, in both official languages, to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than September 24, 2009.

 

At 12:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
