The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal. House of Commons: Jean-François Lafleur, Procedural Clerk.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on March 5, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the Potato Cyst Nematode.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report be entitled: Potato Cyst Nematode in Quebec and Alberta.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and Researchers be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That a dissenting opinion be appended to the report and that it be submitted to the Clerk of the Committee no later than May 1, 2009, and that it be no longer than three (3) pages in length.

 

Brian Storseth moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Wayne Easter moved, — That, in relation to its study on Country of Origin Labeling (COOL), the Committee invite officials from the Canadian Embassy in Washington and the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa to meet with the Committee in order to discuss the U.S. Country of Origin legislation and its impact on Canadian livestock and other agricultural exports.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 12:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
