The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Gord Brown, Hon. Roy Cullen, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Dave MacKenzie, Colin Mayes, Rick Norlock, Penny Priddy and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

Acting Members present: Derek Lee for Hon. Sue Barnes, Hon. Dan McTeague for Bonnie Brown and Robert Vincent for Serge Ménard.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Richard Groulx, Sergeant, Tactical Training Section; Darrell LaFosse, Assistant Commissioner, Community, Contract and Aboriginal Policing Services; Troy Lightfoot, Inspector, Officer in Charge, Operational Program; Bruce Stuart, National Use of Force Coordinator, National Use of Force Program, Community, Contract and Aboriginal Policing Services. Vancouver Police Department: Joel Johnston, Staff Sergeant, British Columbia Use of Force Coordinator. Ontario Police College: Chris Lawrence, Instructor.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, the Committee resumed a study of the Taser.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:30 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt the budget in the amount of $38, 000 for its study of the Taser.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt the budget in the amount of $71, 915 to travel to Vancouver during the first week of April 2008 within the context of its study of the Taser.

 

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
