The Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee met in camera at 1:06 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Dean Allison, Hon. Diane Marleau, Rob Merrifield, Yasmin Ratansi and Mervin C. Tweed.

 

Acting Members present: Michael Savage for Paul Szabo.

 

Other Members present: Rob Anders, Fabian Manning, Tony Martin and Pauline Picard.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Karen Thriepland, Coordinator, Logistics Services. Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities: Jacques Maziade, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on Finance: Jean-François Pagé, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs: Erica Pereira, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans: Julia Lockhart, Clerk of the Committee. Library of Parliament: Jack Stilborn, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 107(1), the Subcommittee resumed its study on budget submissions.
 

The Clerk gave a presentation on the financial status of the global envelope for committee activities and on the 2007-2008 post travel reports.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be granted a travel budget of $151,248 to travel to Brussels, Belgium in September/October 2008 for meetings and site visits, in relation to its study on seal harvest.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs be granted a travel budget of $500 to travel to the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces in Ottawa, Ontario in June 2008 for a site visit, in relation to its comparative study of veterans services offered by members of the Commonwealth and the G8.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Finance be granted a travel budget of $174,366 to travel to Vancouver, British Columbia; Edmonton, Alberta; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, Manitoba, to hold public hearings and site visits in relation to the pre-budget consultations 2008, in the fall of 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Finance be granted a travel budget of $180,723 to travel to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador; Moncton, New Brunswick; Lévis, Québec and Toronto, Ontario, to hold public hearings and site visits in relation to the pre-budget consultations 2008, in the fall of 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Finance be granted a travel budget of $115,830 to travel to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, to hold public hearings and site visits in relation to the pre-budget consultations 2008, in the fall of 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Finance be granted an operational budget of $45,500 for pre-budget consultations 2008.

 

At 1:27 p.m., Yasmin Ratansi took the Chair.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities be granted a travel budget of $72,910 to travel to Dublin, Ireland, to attend the 12th Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN) Congress 2008 –“Inequality and Development in a Globalized Economy: The Basic Income Option”, in relation to its study of the federal contribution to reducing poverty in Canada, from June 16 to 22, 2008.

 

At 1:31 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
