The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Patricia Davidson, Steven John Fletcher, Christiane Gagnon, Luc Malo, Joy Smith, Lui Temelkovski, Hon. Robert Thibault, David Tilson and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Hedy Fry for Susan Kadis.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst; Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Tony Clement, Minister of Health.

 

Witnesses: MDS Nordion: Grant Malkoske, Vice President, Strategic Technologies; David McInnes, Vice President, International Relations. Canadian Society of Nuclear Medicine: Douglas Abrams, President. Department of Health: Morris Rosenberg, Deputy Minister; Meena Ballantyne, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee cancel its meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 26, 2008, because of a lack of available committee rooms due to the numerous activities surrounding the presentation of the Budget in the House of Commons on that date; and that as a consequence of taking this action, it will be necessary, after the meeting on February 14, to shift all future meetings of the Committee already scheduled, by one meeting slot, except for the meeting on Organ Donor Criteria that will remain on March 4, 2008.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the Supply of Radioisotopes.
 

Grant Malkoske and Douglas Abrams made statements and, with David McInnes, answered questions.

 

At 12:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:16 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with Morris Rosenberg, answered questions.

 

At 1:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
