The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met in camera at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Barry Devolin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Rod Bruinooge, Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, Barry Devolin, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Tina Keeper, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell and Chris Warkentin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That no meeting be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, due to the Indian Residential School Apology.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee screen the documentary The Invisible Nation on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, for Committee members and invited guests, including the Director Richard Desjardins.

 

It was agreed, — That Members provide the names of any invited guests to the Clerk as soon as possible in relation to the film screening on June 18, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee make arrangements for a reception at the film screening on June 18, 2008, for the Committee members and the invited guests.

 

It was agreed, — That the meeting on the Census 2006 Findings for Aboriginal Peoples, with senior officials from Statistics Canada and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, take place on Monday, June 16, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee continue its study of Economic Development Challenges in the Northern Territories with a trip to the Yukon and Northwest Territories in the fall, that one week be set aside for the trip prior to Christmas, and that the Committee's focus be consideration of the need for renewal of the Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) suite of programs.

 

It was agreed, — That an interim report be tabled following the above-noted phase of the Economic Development study, after which the study may take on a broader focus.

 

It was agreed, — That a work plan for Bill C-47, An Act respecting family homes situated on First Nation reserves and matrimonial interests or rights in or to structures and lands situated on those reserves, be developed in the fall, including sessions on the duty to consult.

 

It was agreed, — That a meeting of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be held the first week back in September to discuss the fall work plan.

 

At 4:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
