The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Roy Cullen, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gord Brown, Hon. Raymond Chan, Hon. Roy Cullen, Laurie Hawn, Dave MacKenzie and Rick Norlock.

 

Acting Members present: Paul Crête for Maria Mourani, Christian Ouellet for Serge Ménard and Tom Wappel for Hon. Sue Barnes.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Michael Geist, Canada Research Chair, Internet and E-commerce Law, University of Ottawa; Paul Hoffert, Chief Executive Officer of Noank Media, Faculty Fellow, Harvard Law School; Bob Sotiriadis, Lawyer and Partner, Léger Robic Richard, L.L.P..

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed a study on Counterfeit Goods.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:42 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:45 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the subject-matter of Bill C-279, An Act to amend the DNA Identification Act (establishment of indexes).
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and Analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

At 12:51 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
