The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Jason Kenney, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Jason Kenney, Wayne Marston, Ted Menzies, Kevin Sorenson and Caroline St-Hilaire.

 

Acting Members present: Brian Fitzpatrick for Kevin Sorenson and Borys Wrzesnewskyj for Mario Silva.

 

In attendance: Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development: Marcus Pistor, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: PEN Canada: David Cozac, Programs Coordinator. Toronto Association for Democracy in China: Cheuk Kwan, Chair. Falun Dafa Association of Canada: Xun (Shawn) Li, President. Federation for a Democratic China: Xue Sheng, Vice-President.

 
Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, May 10, 2006 and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee, October 24, 2006, the Subcommittee resumed its study on Human Rights in China.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:43 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, the committee invite the international Uyghur Human Rights and Democracy foundation and not the chinese Ambassador for the meeting of December 5th, 2006.

 

At 12:58 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
