The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Shawn Murphy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Paule Brunelle, David Christopherson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jean-Yves Laforest, Mike Lake, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Pierre Poilievre, Pablo Rodriguez, Hon. Judy Sgro, David Sweet, John Williams and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal, Analyst; Alex Smith, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Ron Lewis, Staff Sergeant (Retired). Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Mike Frizzell, Staff Sergeant, Strategic and Operational Support, National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre; Fraser Macaulay, Chief Superintendent; David Gork, Assistant Commissioner; Steve Walker, Staff Sergeant; Denise Revine, Public Service Employee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 9, Pension and Insurance Administration - Royal Canadian Mounted Police of the November 2006 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
 

Ron Lewis, Fraser Macaulay, Steve Walker and David Gork made opening statements and, with Denise Revine, answered questions.

 

At 4:40 p.m., Mr. Fitzpatrick took the Chair.

At 4:42 p.m., Mr. Murphy resumed chairing.

 

Mr. Wrzesnewskyj gave notice of the following motion:

It is most evident from today’s proceedings that there is still significant testimony which must be presented to the Public Accounts Committee in order for the committee to have a full and complete account of the serious issues of potential perjury, fraud, and interference in criminal investigations surrounding the findings of the Auditor General in Chapter 9 of the Auditor General’s Report of November 2006 – Pension and Insurance Administration – Royal Canadian Mounted Police and previous testimony provided to this committee by senior RCMP officials. Consequently, I move that the following persons be asked to appear as witnesses before the Public Accounts Committee on April 16, 2007:

Paul Gauvin, Deputy Commissioner, Corporate Management and Comptrollership - RCMP

Rosalie Burton former Director General HR – RCMP (Presently Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Corporate HR Policies, Strategies and Programs)

Deputy Commissioner Barbara George - RCMP

Former Commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli – RCMP

Dominic Crupi

Jim Ewanovich

 

On motion of John Williams, it was agreed, — That 30 minutes be set aside to consider the motion of Mr. Wrzesnewskyj at the next meeting of the Committee.

 

At 5:41 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
