The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in camera at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Guy Lauzon, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Raymonde Folco, Yvon Godin, Luc Harvey, Guy Lauzon, Pierre Lemieux, Luc Malo, Richard Nadeau and Pablo Rodriguez.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Geoff Regan for Brian Murphy and Hon. Raymond Simard for Brian Murphy.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It is agreed that the notice of motions received from Richard Nadeau, Raymonde Folco, Yvon Godin and Sylvie Boucher, are replaced by a common motion.

 

At 9:25 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 9:26 a.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 

Raymonde Folco moved, — That pursuant to Standing Order 108(1), the Standing Committee on Official Languages invite: 1) the Minister responsible for Official Languages 2) the Minister of National Defence 3) the Commissioner of Official Languages and 4) other witnesses suggested by the Committee, to appear before the Committee as soon as possible to explain the new measure on Official Languages policy for senior military officials of National Defence and, that pursuant to the Standing Orders, a report be immediately prepared and tabled in Parliament.

 

By unanimous consent, after debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 9:29 a.m., the Committee commenced in camera consideration of a draft report on the vitality of Official Language Minority Communities.

 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
