COMMITTEE UNDERTAKES A STUDY ON EMPLOYABILITY IN CANADA
Ottawa, June 01, 2006 - Mr. Dean Allison, MP for Niagara West-Glanbrook and Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, is announcing that the Committee will undertake a study on employability issues in Canada. This study will cover a range of subjects including the mobility of workers, seasonal workers, older workers, skilled worker shortages, workplace literacy and the recognition of foreign credentials.
The Committee has agreed to commence its study in June 2006. It will hold hearings in Ottawa as well as meet Canadians across the country. In the fall of 2006, the Committee expects to hold public hearings in St. John’s, Halifax, Montreal and Toronto as well as in Vancouver, Calgary and Saskatoon.
Persons interested in appearing before the Committee are invited to contact the Clerk of the Committee. Please note that a one (1) page summary of your brief is recommended and briefs should not exceed the ten (10) page limit.
The Committee should table its report before the end of this year.
