The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Patrick Brown, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Mike Lake, Yves Lessard, Michael Savage and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Bouchard for France Bonsant, Hon. Shawn Murphy for Gary Merasty, Glen Douglas Pearson for Mario Silva and Lloyd St. Amand for Ruby Dhalla.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst. House of Commons: Christine Lafrance, Committee Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Social Development: Bill James, Director General, Employment Insurance Policy, Employment Programs Policy and Design Branch; Luc Leduc, Senior Counsel, Legal Services.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 8, 2006, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-269, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (improvement of the employment insurance system).
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

The Chair called Clause 1.

 

By unanimous consent, Clauses 1 to 4 inclusive carried.

 

On Clause 5,

Michael Savage moved, — That Bill C-269, in Clause 5, be amended by replacing lines 7 to 13 on page 3 with the following:

“5.(1) The table to subsection 7(2) of the Act is replaced by the following:

By unanimous consent, Clauses 6 to 19 inclusive carried.
