The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Colleen Beaumier, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Bonnie Brown, Patricia Davidson, Rick Dykstra, Steven John Fletcher, Christiane Gagnon, Susan Kadis, Luc Malo, Rob Merrifield and Penny Priddy.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst.

Witnesses: Action Schools! BC: Heather McKay, Principal Investigator, Professor, University of British Columbia and Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. Public Health Agency of Canada: Kelly Stone, Director, Childhood and Adolescence, Centre for Health Promotion. Department of Health: Marie-France Lamarche, Director, Chronic Disease Prevention, Community Programs Directorate, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch; Ann Ellis, Nutrition Advisor, Office of Nutrition Policy and Promotion, Health Products and Food Branch. Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Joan Katz, Director, Education Planning and Policy, Education Branch. Nova Scotia Department of Health: Farida Gabbani, Senior Director, Office of Health Promotion, Sport and Recreation Division. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Childhood Obesity.

Kelly Stone, Joan Katz, Heather McKay, Farida Gabbani and Andrea Grantham made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
