The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Ruby Dhalla, Steven John Fletcher, Hon. Hedy Fry, Christiane Gagnon, Tina Keeper, Rob Merrifield and Penny Priddy.

 

Acting Members present: Bonnie Brown for Hon. Carolyn Bennett and Ken Epp for Rick Dykstra.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Analyst; Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Tony Clement, Minister of Health.

 

Witnesses: Public Health Agency of Canada: David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer; Luc Ladouceur, Chief Financial Officer. Department of Health: Susan Cartwright, Associate Deputy Minister; Frank Fedyk, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Policy Branch; Chantale Cousineau-Mahoney, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Financial Officer Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2006-2007: Votes 1a, 15a, 20a, 25a, 30a, 35a and 40a under HEALTH referred to the Committee on Monday, October 30, 2006.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with David Butler-Jones, Susan Cartwright, Frank Fedyk and Chantale Cousineau-Mahoney, answered questions.

 
At 5:17 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
 

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That members of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet in order to discuss details of the study on Prescription Drugs to be undertaken by the Committtee.

 

At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
