The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bill Casey, Peter Goldring, Hon. Keith Martin, Alexa McDonough, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Kevin Sorenson, Peter Van Loan and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Vivian Barbot for Francine Lalonde, Hon. Sue Barnes for Bernard Patry, Johanne Deschamps for Diane Bourgeois, Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Albina Guarnieri and Caroline St-Hilaire for Diane Bourgeois.

 

Associate Members present: Hon. John McKay.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst; Allison Goody, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian International Development Agency: Christiane Verdon, Senior General Counsel, Legal Services Division; Stephen Wallace, Vice-President, Policy Branch.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, September 20, 2006, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-293, An Act respecting the provision of development assistance abroad.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:43 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 10, 2006, the Committee resumed a study of Canada's role in complex international interventions that involve multiple foreign policy instruments focusing on Canada's efforts in Haiti.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
