The Standing Committee on International Trade met in camera at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Leon Benoit, Ron Cannan, Hon. Mark Eyking, Hon. Helena Guergis, Peter Julian, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, John Maloney, Ted Menzies and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Paule Brunelle for Pierre A. Paquette and Bev Shipley for Pierre Lemieux.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst; Elizabeth Kuruvila, Analyst. Standing Committee on International Trade: Alexandre Roger, Co-Clerk of the Committee.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the FIRST REPORT from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

 

It was agreed (subject to availability):

 

1. That the Committee hold two meetings on May 29 and 31 to discuss softwood lumber with groups representing the industry and one hour with the Minister of International Trade.

2. That the Committee hold a meeting on June 5 to discuss the WTO in the context of services, agriculture and non-agricultural market access. One hour with senior officials and one hour with groups.

3. That the Committee invite the Minister of International Trade to appear on June 7 to discuss the 2006-07 Main Estimates.

4. That the Committee hold a meeting on June 12 to discuss the trade agreement negotiations between Canada and the CA4 (El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala). One hour with senior officials and one hour with groups.

5. That the Committee hold a meeting on June 14 to discuss the negotiations between Canada and South Korea. One hour with senior officials and one hour with groups.

6. That starting in September 2006 the Committee hold a weekly meeting to discuss long-term projects and a weekly meeting to discuss short-term projects.

 

At 3:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
