The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in the Salon DEG, Best Western Glengarry, Truro, Nova Scotia, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Barry Devolin, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Larry Miller and Paul Steckle.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal. House of Commons: Graeme Truelove, Committee Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Nova Scotia Fruit Growers' Association: Andrew Bishop, President. Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia: Havey Whidden, Vice-Chair; Brian Cameron, General Manager. Chicken Farmers of Canada: David Fuller, Chair. Nova Scotia Agricultural College: Robert Gordon. Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture: Frazer M. Hunter, Chairman . Pork Nova Scotia: Henry Vissers; Dennis Boudreau, Vice-Chair. Newfoundland and Labrador Young Farmers' Forum: Chan Wiseman, President. Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture: Mervin Wiseman, President. Nova Scotia Cranberry Growers Association: David Ernst, President. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Agricultural Policy Framework.
 

The Committee observed a minute of silence in memory of Mrs. Jocelyne Couture-Nowak, who lived in Truro and taught at the Agricultural College in Truro.

 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:38 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:47 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 12:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
