The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Gary Merasty, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell and Brian Storseth.

 

Acting Members present: Daniel Petit for Steven Blaney.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst. House of Commons: Joann Garbig, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: Roger Valley, Kenora.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 18, 2006, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-292, An Act to implement the Kelowna Accord.
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of the preamble and Clause 1 are postponed.

The Chair calls Clause 2.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study on circumstances faced by the Pikangikum First Nation.
 

Roger Valley made a statement and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee cancel its plan to travel to the United Nations in New York.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from Robert Morales, Chief Negociator for the Hul'qumi'num Treaty Group on the BC Treaty Process.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear Senior Officials from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development responsible for Ontario, on the circumstances faced by the Pikangikum First Nation.

 

At 10:27 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
