The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Steven Blaney, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Gary Merasty, Hon. Anita Neville and Todd Norman Russell.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Shawn Murphy for Nancy Karetak-Lindell.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: National Association of Friendship Centres: Peter Dinsdale, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed it's study on Education of Aboriginal People.
 

Peter Dinsdale made an opening statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

By unanimous consent, on motion of Anita Neville, it was agreed, — That this Committee report to the House that it agrees with the findings contained in the Fifth Report of this Committee in the 1st Session of the 38th Parliament entiled: Walking arm-in-arm to resolve the issue of on-reserve matrimonial real property; that the Chair present the report to the House; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:02 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development has the honour to present its SECOND REPORT:

Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That, the Committee proceed to a study of post-secondary education of Aborginal People

2. That, the Committee consider the government's response to the Concialiator's Final Report: Nunavut Land Claims Agreement implementation Planning Contract Negociations for the Second Planning Period once it is tabled.

It was agreed, — That the Second report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be adopted.
