The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Marlene Catterall, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Gord Brown, Sarmite Bulte, Marlene Catterall, Wajid Khan, Maka Kotto, Marc Lemay, Deepak Obhrai, Bev Oda, Gary Schellenberger and Scott Simms.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Joseph Jackson, Analyst; Sam Banks, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Richard Flageole, Assistant Auditor General; Ginette Moreau, Principal Director; Richard Gaudreau, Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 32(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Auditor General's Reports: Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Federal Government (Chapter 6, November 2003); Placing the Public's Money Beyond Parliament's Reach - Canadian Television Fund (Chapter 1, April 2002); Other Audit Observations - Telefilm Canada (Chapter 8, November 2004).
 

Sheila Fraser made an opening statement and with the witnesses answered questions.

 

On motion of Wajid Khan, it was agreed, — that the Committee postpone the hearing of the World Film Festival until members of the Committee have had an opportunity to review the brief submitted by the witness.

 
Scott Simms gave notice of the following motion: -That the committee report to the House of Commons on the Auditor General report, requiring Heritage Canada report to the Committee on the development of a Strategy and Action plan, including time frames, in response to the Auditor General recommendations on the protection of cultural heritage and that the report also include the results of consultations with other departments and Agencies
 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
