Meeting No. 4

Tuesday, May 13, 2003

The Subcommittee on Marine Transportation of the Standing Committee on Transport met at 4:20 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Roger Gallaway, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Andy Burton, Roger Gallaway and Roger Gaudet.

Other Member present: Mario Laframboise.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Principal Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Shipping Federation of Canada: Richard Le Hir, President; Capt Ivan Lantz, Director, Marine Operations; Anne Legars, Director, Policy and Government Affairs. From the Canadian Coast Guard: Tim Meisner, Acting Director General, Marine Programs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study of the St. Lawrence Seaway System and the Great Lakes Study.

Richard Le Hir made an opening statement and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:25 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Tim Meisner made an opening statement and answered questions.

The Chair gave notice of a motion, tabled by Stan Keyes on the Pilotage on the St-Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes.

At 5:56 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
